Petronas strives to strengthen CSR initiatives
MIRI: Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas) has continued to implement its corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives to empower the communities within its operating areas.
In stating this, Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd Sarawak Asset senior general manager Anuar Ismail said among its CSR initiatives was the ‘Memacu Kehidupan’ programme on safety education awareness that had benefitted the communities in Subis and Bario.
Speaking at the company’s ‘iftar’ (break-of-fast) event at a hotel here recently, he said Petronas had also imparted income-generating skills to the rural community in Long Latei to stimulate their socio-economic activities.
“Petronas is aware that our success is interconnected with the well-being of the community,” he pointed out.
“Some 100 senior citizens from the Tatau Senior Citizens Activity Centre (Pawe) and Miri Home for the Aged had also benefitted from the programme, run in conjunction with the recent Chinese New Year celebration,” he said.
“Meanwhile, for the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Petronas has treated 110 families and individuals in Miri and Bintulu to new outfits and other necessities,” he added.
The company’s collaboration with the government agencies in carrying out the CSR initiatives, he said, showed its commitment to empower the lives of the community.
“The aid programmes are tailored to suit the needs of the community in Miri and its surrounding areas,” he said.
The ‘iftar’ also held the handing-over of donations to 65 individuals from the underprivileged groups.
Among those present at the event were Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting; Deputy Minister of Women, Children and Community Welfare Sarawak and Bekenu assemblywoman Datuk Rosey Yunus; Pujut assemblyman Mayor Adam Yii; Miri District police chief Alexson Naga Chabu; and Petronas Sarawak general manager Zulaihi Mohd Mantali.
