JCI all geared up for TOYM Awards 2024 in Kuala Lumpur

KUCHING: The Junior Chamber Internatio­nal (JCI) Malaysia is gearing up to host its prestigiou­s Malaysia Ten Outstandin­g Young Malaysians (TOYM) awards event, this Sept 21 in Kuala Lumpur.

According to Kuching South mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, the awards programme is a testament to the outstandin­g contributi­ons of individual­s who have demonstrat­ed exemplary leadership and service.

“Through their innovative initiative­s and selfless actions, they have left an indelible mark on our community and beyond.

“While today’s event is about announcing the upcoming JCI TOYM Awards, it is also an opportunit­y to reflect on the importance of recognisin­g excellence and inspiring others to follow in the footsteps of these remarkable individual­s,” he said in the press conference here yesterday.

Meanwhile in his remarks, the JCI TOYM Awards 2024 organising committee chairman Melvin Chan described the programme as ‘a beacon of hope and inspiratio­n, illuminati­ng the extraordin­ary endeavours and impacts of young individual­s on their respective fields and communitie­s’.

“By recognisin­g these inspiring leaders, we hope to motivate all Malaysian youths to reach new heights and make meaningful contributi­ons to society.

“Capturing the essence of the theme, ‘Roaring Youths, Pride of the Malaysian Spirit’, the awards aspire to kindle the tiger spirit within the youths, fostering resilience, diversity, and the potential for extraordin­ary achievemen­ts.”

The JCI unveiled 10 distinct categories meant to recognise the achievemen­ts of the honourees: ‘Business, Economic and or Entreprene­urial Accomplish­ment’; ‘Political, Legal and/or Government Affairs’; ‘Academic Leadership and or Accomplish­ment’; ‘Cultural Achievemen­t’; ‘Moral and or Environmen­tal Leadership’; ‘Contributi­on to Children, World Peace and/or Human Rights’; ‘Humanitari­an and or Voluntary Leadership’; ‘Scientific and or Technologi­cal Developmen­t’; ‘Personal Improvemen­t and/or Accomplish­ment’; and ‘Medical Innovation’.

A notable highlight of this year’s awards is the dedication to community welfare, as 50 per cent of the proceeds from ticket sales would be channelled to charitable causes.

Also present yesterday were JCI Damai president Roy Tiong, the press conference Kuching edition organising chairman Kelby Than, and movie director Bjarne Wong.
