KUCHING: Smart cities solutions and surveillance provider ITMAX System Bhd (Itmax) has managed to make a clean sweep of Greater JB smart city district council contract awards in the past 6 months.

Itmax’s 65 per cent subsidiary, Southmax Sdn Bhd (Southmax), announced on March 19 that it had secured its fourth and final letter of award (LOA) for CCTVs in the Greater JB metropolitan area which includes the district of Johor Bahru, Iskandar Puteri, Pasir Gudang and Kulai.

The LOA was awarded by Kulai’s town council for a contract sum of RM77.1 million and includes the provision of 300 CCTVs as well as 33 traffic controllers (TCs) on a rental basis to the district.

In total, the four LOAs have a combined contract sum of RM373.3 million and includes the provision of 1,640 CCTVs and 100 TCs in the Greater JB metropolitan area.

According to the research arm of Maybank Investment Bank Bhd (Maybank Research), awards are in-line with Johor state government’s efforts to upgrade the region’s ‘Smart City’ capability ahead of its potential inclusion into the upcoming Johor-Singapore Economic Zone (JSSEZ).

At the end of Jan, Itmax has installed circa 110 CCTVs and is expecting to complete installation of the remaining 1530 CCTVs and 100 TCs by the end of 2024.

And looking ahead, Maybank research guides that they believe there is scope for further expansion by Itmax within the Greater JB region as its mayor has recently announced that they plan to add an additional 500 CCTVs to the district in the future.

“We understand that Itmax is also in active discussion with district councils adjacent to Greater JB, as well as those in other states, for the provision of various integrated smart city services,” said the research arm.
