KUCHING: More than 2,400 people from Samarahan received contributions through the Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri programme at Masjid Al-Muttaqin, Samarahan yesterday.

The donation was presented by Deputy Minister of Women, Childhood and Community Development Datuk Mohamad Razi Sitam in a symbolic ceremony attended by 150 recipients of monthly welfare assistance from Samarahan.

“The Sejambak Kasih Aidilfitri programme aims to alleviate financial burdens and bring joy to aid recipients during the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration.

“It also serves to enhance the quality of life among less privileged families,” he said in his address during the event.

He also mentioned that the 150 recipients present yesterday received a hamper worth RM80 and RM100 cash each.

“The remaining recipients will have their aid directly deposited into their bank accounts through the division’s welfare office,” he told reporters after the event concluded.

Earlier, Mohamad Razi stated that the Sarawak government, through the programme managed by the state Welfare Department (JKM), had allocated RM1,662,400 for 16,624 recipients across 12 divisions in Sarawak; namely Kuching (4,524 recipients), Samarahan (2,486 recipients), Serian (349 recipients), Sri Aman (734 recipients), Betong (2,216 recipients), Sarikei (359 recipients), Sibu (759 recipients), Mukah (2,374 recipients), Kapit (98 recipients), Bintulu (601 recipients), Miri (967 recipients) and Limbang (1,157 recipients).

In addition, JKM disbursed a total of RM42,963,250 to 54,040 monthly aid recipients across the state from January to February this year, he said.

“This includes assistance for the disabled unable to work, foster child assistance, and youth assistance,” he added.
