Strong support will ensure Kapit Kwang Tung Association’s relevance, members told

-

KAPIT: Kapit Kwang Tung Association will need the support and cooperation of all members to face the challenges ahead and remain relevant, said chairman Kong Sien Hua.

In his opening address at the association’s annual general meeting here Tuesday evening, he said teamwork is essential in ensuring the success of all activities and programmes planned.

“I urge all members to work closely with the main committee in facing all challenges.

“The Year of the Dragon this year is one full of challenges, and your full support will ensure we will emerge stronger and continue to remain relevant,” he said.

Sien Hua said the association last year had succeeded in carrying out all of its planned activities, including a fundraising sale; presentation of cash incentives to high-performing students, and angpow to its senior citizen members; annual Chinese New Year dinner; Women’s Day celebration; and Mooncake Festival.

He said the cooperation between the main body members and the Women and Youth wings was crucial in making sure these activities ran smoothly.

“For our ordinary members, the least you can do is to turn up and support our activities, because they would be meaningless without your participation.”

He also informed that the association had earlier received a grant of RM500,000 from the Unit for Other Religions for infrastructure works at the proposed new Kwang Tung Clan cemetery located along Jalan Antaroh in Sut.

“By the end of this May or early June, works to erect the perimeter fence and shaded resting area should be completed. This new cemetery is for our clan members only, and we have to make sure everything is planned and executed properly,” he said.

Among those who attended the annual general meeting were association advisers Penghulu Shia Sui Poh, Kapitan Lee See Fong, Kapitan Kong Cheak He and Kong Sien Leong; vice chairman Kong Sien Shi, secretary Kong Muk Hua; treasurer Kong Hock Ping; Women chief Liew Mee Kiong; and Youth chief Kong Sien Kiong.
