Senior golfers play for charity to mark festivitie­s

Loh Soon Kee shot a nine-under par 63 to win the nett category for those 74 years and below of the Senior Golfers Society of Sarawak Raya Golf at Kelab Golf Sarawak (KGS) yesterday.

Three strokes further in second place was Justin Song while Ng Liang Yew finished third with a 67.

The gross title went to Magit Semong who returned a score of 82, beating Ronny Ling on count back (OCB) while Hoan Kee Hock was third one stroke further adrift.

Sia Chui Seng claimed the Super Senior (75 years and above) title when he shot a eight-under par 64 to finish three strokes ahead of Kueh Hong Siong and five strokes ahead of Dato Ding Lian Cheon.

The prize presentati­on ceremony also saw prizes given out to winners of the New Year-Charity Golf by the SGSS president Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan Hong Nam and Chinese New Year Golf by SGSS deputy president Dato Ding Lian Cheon.

In the New Year-Charity Golf held on Jan 17, the top three for the nett (74 years and below) were Tiong Ching Cheong (68

OCB), Hoan Kee Hock (68) and Liew Nam Boon (69 OCB), gross (74 years and below) were Abdul Aziz Sahari (77), Samuel Tiew Sii Mew (82) and James Chuo To Sui (83) and Super Senior nett (74 years and above) were Chai Ming Siang (73), Sia Chui Seng (74 OCB) and Anthony Tan Hong Chiang.

Meanwhile, Datu Edwin Abit walked away with the nett (74 years and below) title of the Chinese New Year-Charity Golf when he shot an eight-under par 64, pipping Sim Khee Hian to second place on count back after both returned a similar score.

Two strokes further adrift in third place was Tang Kuok Hin.

The gross (74 years and below) category was won by Waili Abang who beat Abdul Aziz Sahari and Magit Semong on count back after all three had similar score of 79.

Anthony Tan won the Super Senior (75 years and above) with a 71, followed by Leong Chin Hin (73) and Mathew Ng Joon Min (74).

From the donations collected from the members, SGSS handed RM40,888 over to the Lions Club of Kuching One Earth which was used to sponsor one unit of dialysis machine to Divine Will Society Dialysis Centre.
