The mark of satisfaction
iT is said that the success of a business is reflected by the number of repeat customers. In this regard, Melaka-Manipal Medical College (Manipal University) (MMMC), has proven the adage true when siblings, relatives and friends of MMMC graduates signed up with the college.
It is estimated that about 30% of its students were recommended by friends and relatives to sign up for the challenging and highquality education Melaka-Manipal offers.
In fact, one particular family has three sisters who are on the college rolls currently and a fourth sibling will be joining in a couple of years. It is not uncommon to find such familial links in the college.
Melaka-Manipal’s MBBS (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) has proven to be top notch, being the singular institution in Malaysia to be bestowed a five-year accreditation by the MQA (Malaysian Qualifications Agency) Joint Technical Committee in 2010.
The college itself had been honoured as a Superbrand in Medical Education, and the performance of its graduate doctors has been nothing less than excellent, judging from feedback received.
Its graduates seemed to have reached the far corners of the earth, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore.
Its dentistry programme, launched in 2009, has also got off to a flying start with the much coveted BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) programme being booked for over a year by those insisting on nothing less than MelakaManipal.
The dean and faculty of the dentistry course in Malacca have done their utmost in ensuring that the dental students maintain the high standards set by its MBBS counterparts.
It would be remiss not to mention the efforts of the faculty in the Manipal campus which laid a solid foundation in the basic sciences.
Melaka-Manipal’s degrees are twinning programmes, whereby the first phase comprising pre-clinical studies are completed in its campus in Manipal, India.
The Foundation in Science programme, launched in January last year, looks set to follow the attainments of the degree courses.
The pioneer batch surpassed all expectations with over 90% moving on to the MBBS and BDS programmes, when the norm of advancement in the education industry from a high-quality pre-university programme to degree studies is only around 50%.
Parents of students who had signed up for the Foundation course have noticed an obvi- ous change in their children, who had not developed just academically, but had also become more mature and self-reliant.
The Foundation programme was launched to address a lacking of science-based pre-university courses leading to medical and dental studies in and around Malacca.
It was also to address the difficulty that other pre-university qualifiers experienced in adjusting to the rigours of both the aforesaid programmes.
Melaka-Manipal incorporated into its curriculum the basics of subjects such as Anatomy and Physiology, Pharmacology, Genetics and Oral Biology.
Although students found these subjects testing, they faced up to the challenges and came out trumps in the best tradition of Melaka-Manipal.
Melaka-Manipal seems set to move along the path of its renowned partner, Manipal University, a paragon of medical education in India, which is celebrating its 60th year of founding.
