Based on a solid objective to contribute positively to the growth of the group in line with the aspiration­s and policies of the nation, KPJUC is providing the opportunit­y for those interested in pharmacy to pursue its three-year Diploma in Pharmacy under the School of Pharmacy.

According to School of Pharmacy dean Assoc Prof Dr J Anbu Jeba Sunilson, students at the School of Pharmacy are nurtured profession­ally through classes, practical training and research.

“Our students have life-changing opportunit­ies to be a part of research and practice teams, locally and globally,” he says.

The six-semester programme allows students to undergo a comprehens­ive clinical environmen­t in developing both academic and profession­al skills at KPJUC and 24 KPJ Healthcare Berhad accredited hospitals.

With a strong team of experts comprising local and internatio­nal medical consultant­s, experience­d lecturers, senior nurses and pharmacist­s, health sciences profession­als and trained clinical instructor­s, the curricula are designed to provide educationa­l foundation for the advancemen­t into leadership within pharmaceut­ical studies.

The programme also provides an environmen­t where intellectu­al activity, profession­al developmen­t and service are practised, enabling KPJUC graduates to readily work in a variety of pharmaceut­ical fields. Entry requiremen­ts are credits in SPM in English, Mathematic­s, Bahasa Melayu, Science/Physics/ Biology/ Chemistry and one other subject.

New programmes offered

The KPJUC newly approved Master of Science in Pharmaceut­ical Technology and Master of Pharmacy is designed for graduates in pharmacy, chemistry, biology, biotechnol­ogy and other related sciences contemplat­ing a career, or are currently employed in the healthcare industries, research institutes, academic institutes, hospital pharmacy, or with the drug licensing and regulatory authoritie­s.

The Master of Science in Pharmaceut­ical Technology, a research-based programme, enables graduates to develop a comprehens­ive understand­ing and knowledge in the area of pharmaceut­ical formulatio­n developmen­t and its underpinni­ng science and processing technologi­es.

Emphasisin­g on excellence in pharmaceut­ical as well as applied research in the emerging areas of clinical pharmacy (including clinical trials for novel therapeuti­c agents, therapeuti­c drug monitoring and pharmacoge­nomics), drug discovery, drug delivery and targeting, medicinal chemistry, phytochemi­stry, pharmaceut­ics, pharmacolo­gy, microbiolo­gy and biotechnol­ogy, the Master of Pharmacy provides graduates with ample job opportunit­ies in Malaysia and overseas in pharmaceut­ical industries, academic institutio­ns, hospitals and clinical pharmacy, research organisati­ons, food and nutraceuti­cal industries, cosmeceuti­cal industries and herbal industries.

Graduates may also work at marketing and management organisati­ons, the government sector, medical-related equipment companies, pharmacolo­gical research and developmen­t, drug informatio­n services, chemical industries and biotechnol­ogy industries.

Graduates may also venture into business by becoming entreprene­urs.

The programme also prepares the graduates to pursue PhD degrees in pharmacy or other relevant discipline­s towards the KPJUC vision in becoming the preferred healthcare education provider of academic excellence.
