Engineering at its best

iT was about seven months ago that the students of German-Malaysian Institute (GMI) first stepped foot into the institution.

Now into their second semester in the respective Diploma programmes at GMI, these students talk about their individual reasons for being at GMI, their experiences so far and their plans once they graduate.

Putra Mohd Nor Ridzwan Azhar, who is studying Diploma in Product Design & Manufacturing in his second semester, says, “Love at first sight. That was what I felt the moment I stepped into the campus compound. I was awed by the size of the campus and more fascinated when we were taken on a departmental tour during Orientation Week.”

At GMI, Putra and his classmates are given hands-on exposure to technologies suited to real-life application. His interest in technology training is enhanced by the Technical Training Officers (TTO). The hostel is unique and reasonably priced.

The students get to channel their pressure positively when they play sports at the Sports Complex.

Kishan Kumar Sivaji is studying Diploma in Industrial Electronics (Mechatronics). He is also in his second semester.

Kishan says, “The reason I am here is because GMI is the best institute for engineering. It bridges the gap between engineering and technology and also provides technical hands-on experience.

“My cousin is a graduate of GMI. And now, because of the know-how training philosophy he was exposed to, he is an assistant engineer at an established international oil and gas company.

“The synergy between engineering knowhow and know-why at GMI is truly amazing. GMI is all about advanced technology training. It is a must-see and a must-be-here for those who are absolute believers in Technical and Vocational Training and Education (TVET).”

Soon Tzi Chiau, who is doing the Diploma in Industrial Electronics (Mechatronics) in the second semester, says, “Before I got to GMI, I was already into vocational training at high school level. GMI has much more to offer when one is looking for training in engineering and technology.”

GMI was established in July 1992 and is located in the picturesque suburb of Kajang, 25 minutes south of Kuala Lumpur City Centre.

GMI offers advanced technology and skilled training under the Department of Production Technology and Department Of Industrial Electronics.
