-

nESTLED on a 140-acre site in Bandar Baru Nilai, enveloped by green hills and a picturesque lake, is Manipal International University (MIU).

MIU is a private Malaysian university and is part of the Manipal Group, India’s largest private institute of higher learning. MIU is an innovative, global, multidisciplinary university with nationally accredited foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

Focusing on the disciplines of engineering, life sciences, business and management, MIU fosters education excellence, a passion for innovation, a sense of civic and social responsibility and the quest for life-long learning.

The development is designed based on an eco-friendly concept with the industry’s high- est standards in green building technology, in compliance with the Leed Platinum Green Building Certification.

“We are creating for our students the best possible environment that is conducive for study and inspiring for personal development. Living in a green environment will inculcate good habits and encourage awareness on environmental sustainability,” says Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof Zanuldin Ahmad.

“We are committed to transform our students into not just skilled intellects, but innovative and entrepreneurial-minded graduates with a commitment to civic and social responsibility.

“At MIU we adopt an openended, problem-based approach to teaching. Having a background in engineering and the corporate sector, I am able to apply reallife situations which will enable students to correlate theory and practice.”

This approach is central to MIU’s teaching philosophy and is adopted at every level.

Deputy Vice Chancellor (Operations) and Dean of the School of Management and Business Professor Dr Noraini Ismail adds, “The knowledge and latest information that I gather through industrial research, training and consultancy are incorporated into my teaching.

“Students benefit from timely industry developments and practical solutions. Our focus is not just on the content of the syllabus, but also in the delivery of knowledge and the nurturing of analytical minds. It’s a holistic pedagogy.

“I would strive to nurture MIU graduates to become bold and enterprising. I would like MIU to incubate and nurture this initiative to produce passionate selfemployed entrepreneurs who embrace innovation.”

Central to this endeavour is the development of strong industry linkages to groom industry-ready graduates.

MIU has entered strategic partnerships with AirAsia Berhad and Biocon Limited towards the development of human capital.

Besides consultation with the industry on syllabus development aimed at enhancing relevant competencies and soft skills to better equip undergraduates for potential employment with the respective companies, the partnerships outline the creation of an Internship Programme and Graduate Employment Programme.

“We are committed to getting our students equipped for the job market and aligning them to the soft skills, organisational behaviours and cultures of leading Malaysian and regional companies,” says Prof Zanuldin.
