Early childhood studies
tHE Faculty of Early Childhood Studies (FECS), created in late 2012, represents a new faculty at the UNITAR International University.
FECS aspires to be the leading faculty of Early Childhood Studies in the country, which offers innovative and the latest knowledge in professional pedagogy to train professional and compassionate academics who will be responsible in educating the children of today.
The Faculty offers programmes at Diploma and Bachelor Degree levels in the area of Early Childhood Studies, catering to the needs of working professionals and school leavers through conventional and distance learning programmes.
The Master of Education (MEd) specialising in Early Childhood Education is offered in collaboration with the graduate school.
The Diploma is aimed at preparing learners to meet the demands and challenges of the teaching profession at nursery and preschool levels.
It also seeks to complement the Government’s target of ensuring that all teachers in the early childhood education system are bachelor degree holders (for Ministry Of Education) or diploma holders in the field for the private sector.
The Diploma of Early Childhood Education Programme provides an excellent opportunity for non-graduate teachers, school leavers, and those interested in entering the teaching profession.
The Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood Education) (Hons) focuses on the education of children from birth to eight years of age. Graduates are qualified to work in both the private as well as in the public sectors (MOA requirement) of the education industry.
Responsible positions can be found in day- care centres, preschools and recreation centres. Graduates can work as an educational administrator or run a daycare business.
Faculty of Early Childhood Studies dean Associate Professor Dr Bustam Kamri from the FECS is moving to explore beyond the traditional views of early childhood studies.
“The world as we know it is rapidly changing day to day and the demands for better education for our young children are ever present, even becoming highly competitive locally. With a generational boom in our nation, the number of young children is expected to increase significantly,” says Dr Bustam.
UNITAR International University was established in 1997.
