Academy that’s a cut above
WITH more than a thousand graduates from the academy to date, A Cut Above Academy is proud to have contributed to the nation’s need for hairstylists.
Noted by City & Guilds and Brand Laureate as the Best Hairdressing in Malaysia, A Cut Above Academy continues to strive for achievements beyond the expectations of the trade.
A Cut Above Academy started in 2004 in Sunway Pyramid, at the secluded rooftop of the shopping mall. Fast-forward to 2013 and the institution is now housed in a three-storey building.
It started with only four educators. Now the hairdressing academy has eight vocationally trained educators.
The academy is endorsed by the government as an education centre for hairdressing.
Its success is built on a foundation made by founder Winnie Loo who had the vision to upgrade the standard of local hairdressing to one of international standard.
Hairdressing education
A Cut Above’s Hairdressing Education is an eight-month programme with an option to extend for an additional three months for internship.
The internship can be carried out in any of A Cut Above’s group of salons which consists of X-CUT, Restyle and A Cut Above.
In the three months, the student gets to experience working in salons of various themes. From thereon, the student will get an additional one-month refresher course at the academy where he will get to refine certain skills.
Achieving artistry make-up
A professional hairdresser today is equipped with skills not only for doing hair, but also make-up.
Today’s fashion industry calls for the multitalented. They are creative as well as innovative.
Their income is not only derived from hair- dressing, but also includes the extras earned for providing additional services to the client who needs to be ready for an event.
Understanding this, A Cut Above Academy also teaches make-up.
This gives graduates from A Cut Above Academy an added advantage in the industry.
Producing graduates who are capable of delivering various services under one roof has earned the academy recognition in the industry.
Pinewood Iskandar Malaysia Studio, one of the biggest movie studios in Asia, has invited A Cut Above to recommend capable candidates to be their stylists as well as make-up artists.
The future of hairdressers in Malaysia is promising. Hairdressers can command a good income not only within the compounds of a salon, but outdoors as well, via freelancing.
Photography
In today’s ever-challenging business world, A Cut Above Academy is preparing its students for a demanding future to produce photo shoots.
It is the insitution’s goal to produce hairstylists capable of doing hair, make-up as well be involved in the photo shoots, be it for magazines, photo or movie studios.
Being “A Cut Above The Rest” does not only mean producing graduates capable of servicing the industry today. It should also be farsighted to ensure graduates have a promising career ahead.
