Life is still sweet without sugar

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - STAR SPECIAL -

MALAYSIANS are blessed with abundant and diverse culinary choices. Thus, we are spoilt with rich food available right at our doorstep.

We crave to satisfy our palate and sweet food is one of the temptations that are hard to resist. We not only put sugar into our drinks and juices, there are also many forms of hidden sugar in the food that makes our daily sugar intake uncontrollable.

On average, we consume 26 teaspoons of sugar per day in the form of soft drinks, condensed milk, flavoured drinks, junk food and other breakfast cereal.

Over consumption of sugar is related to obesity, hypertension, heart problem, diabetes and cancer.

How can sugar be the cause of so many diseases? The key is the pancreas that helps control the glucose level in the blood.

The pancreas produces a type of hormone called insulin that acts as a key to convert the sugar in the body into energy. High consumption of sugar could affect the pancreas, and in turn, it is not able to function properly to produce enough insulin.

High sugar level in the body is fatal and can cause complications that potentially lead to blindness, amputation, heart problems and even death.

Life is still sweet without sugar. Tropicana Slim is bringing in a sweetener that is safe and low-caloried to replace sugar. It is safe for the whole family to consume, even for diabetics.

Sorbitol and sucralose are two main ingredients in Tropicana Slim zero calorie sweeteners (Diet Sticks and Diet tablets) and Tropicana Slim no calorie with chromium (Diabetics).

Sorbitol has a low glycaemic index (GI) and is considered to be a low carb food, so it fits perfectly into the modern diet to help people keep a slender body.

As sorbitol doesn’t require insulin to metabolise, it becomes an ideal food for diabetics to manage their blood glucose levels.

Although sucralose is made from sugar, the human body does not recognise it as a sugar and does not metabolise it. Therefore, it provides no calories.

Furthermore, sucralose is non-cariogenic (does not promote caries or tooth decay) and is regarded as ideal for people with diabetes and anyone trying to reduce their sugar intake.

All sweeteners permitted for use have been subjected to a comprehensive examination for potential toxicological effects according to the principles of toxicological testing of food additives.

Their safety has been evaluated by the national authorities and by the Joint Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)/World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Committee on Food Additives (JECFA).

Tropicana Slim products are available at pharmacies, clinics and supermarkets in Kelantan, Terengganu and Malacca.

Tropicana Slim also welcomes those interested in becoming sub-distributors.
