Another year, another round of wins

FOR more than 30 years, the Kancil Awards has been one of the biggest advertising awards in Malaysia. The prestigious award gives recognition to great ideas, people and agencies while seeking new talents with fresh creative minds.

The One Academy Advertising and Graphic Design students rose to the occasion and seized a collective total of six Student Kancil Awards – one gold, two silvers, two bronzes and one merit.

The renowned panel of judges comprised formidable players from the industry – Gigi Lee of Y&R, Huang Ean Hwa of MerdekaLHS, Mun Tuck Wai of Munmovesmountains, Liew Sanyen of IF Interactive, Tan Yew Leong and Chow Kok Keong of TBWA KL.

The One Academy students have become the biggest Student Kancil Award winners for six consecutive years with a whopping 42 creative advertising awards in all.

Based on the mock client’s theme “Entertainment wherever you go”, the brief was to “revolutionise the way we watch television” when catching our favourite TV series, movies or music videos.

The gold award went to the submission titled “Connectvty”. It was won by members Lai Siang Yeow, Thoo Sueen, Lau Chung Yuen and Tan Yik Hua.

The silver award was won by group members Clara Christine Wijaya, Yap Jia Wen, Vicky Lee and Kuan Sook Chiung for their work titled “Fun is Waiting”.

Two bronze awards went to group members Tan May Wen, Shim Poh Ling and Stephanie Yeoh Pei Yee for the hip submission titled “Astro OTG Cinema”, followed by group members Tan Piek Khie, Chow Wai Yee, Shieh Yen Pei and Kee Gaik Tong for their work titled “Anywhere, Even Underworld”.

A merit was awarded to Alwin Lim Win Hoong, Hyung Sunwoo and Julia Hannie Zulkifli for their submission titled “Transforming Anywhere into Your Living Room”.

For decades, The One Academy students have been known as award winners and executors. This is because The One Academy trains its students in a practical approach within an industry-driven syllabus.

Gold winner and Connectvty group mem- ber Thoo says: “During my journey at The One Academy, I learned two most valuable lessons – perseverance, when the going gets tough and not getting the results you expect; second, stepping out of my comfort zone in bracing myself to try new things all the time.”

With this positive and goal-oriented attitude in the students, it is no wonder why industry players in the creative field seek The One Academy students.

The courses offered at The One Academy are Multimedia Design with New Media Studies, Digital Animation with Game Development, Illustration with Entertainment Art, Advertising & Graphic Design, Interior Design, Paris Fashion Design & Pattern Making and Fine Arts.
