ATC marks stu­dents’ achieve­ment

JAN 15 was a day to re­mem­ber for Ad­vance Ter­tiary Col­lege’s (ATC) grad­u­at­ing class of 2013 as they cel­e­brated their aca­demic suc­cess at the 24th An­nual Grand Con­vo­ca­tion Cer­e­mony that was held at the Ple­nary Hall of the Kuala Lumpur Con­ven­tion Cen­tre.

Grad­u­ates from the Univer­sity of Lon­don, Bach­e­lor of Laws (LLB), the Cer­tifi­cate in Le­gal Prac­tice (CLP) and School of Busi­ness and Man­age­ment re­ceived their scrolls in a cer­e­mony steeped in tra­di­tion and gran­deur be­fit­ting an in­sti­tu­tion of ATC’s es­teem.

The event saw a large at­ten­dance by a ver­i­ta­ble who’s who of the Malaysian le­gal fra­ter­nity as se­nior mem­bers of the bar and bench were in at­ten­dance.

The guest of hon­our at the event was the Chief Jus­tice of Malaysia Tun Arifin Zakaria who gave the con­vo­ca­tion ad­dress and also pre­sented the scrolls to the LLB grad­u­ates.

Also present at the event was the Univer­sity of Lon­don pro vice-chan­cel­lor (in­ter­na­tional) and chief ex­ec­u­tive of the in­ter­na­tional pro­gramme Dr Mary Sti­asny. Her pres­ence was a tes­ta­ment to the close ties ATC has with the Univer­sity of Lon­don. Pres­i­dent of the Malaysian Bar Christo­pher Leong was also on hand to present some awards.

The Repub­lic of Kenya Deputy Pres­i­dent’s wife Rachel Ruto re­ceived sev­eral schol­ar­ships cre­ated for out­stand­ing young peo­ple from Kenya to pur­sue their stud­ies in law or busi­ness at ATC.

ATC Prin­ci­pal and Deputy CEO Dr Danny Choong in his speech told the au­di­ence of proud par­ents and fam­ily mem­bers about ATC’s suc­cess through­out the year.

He high­lighted the fact that three stu­dents of ATC across its four cam­puses achieved first class hon­ours de­grees.

He also men­tioned 33 stu­dents who achieved Sec­ond Class (Up­per) Hon­ours de­grees and the var­i­ous aca­demic awards ob­tained by ATC stu­dents from the Univer­sity of Lon­don and the col­lege’s achieve­ments in the 8th Lawa­sia moot com­pe­ti­tion and the In­ter­na­tional Hu­man­i­tar­ian Law moot com­pe­ti­tions and the out­stand­ing achieve­ments by the CLP stu­dents in 2013.

Daniel Chua Wei Chuen was named the best stu­dent of the Univer­sity of Lon­don LLB grad­u­at­ing class, win­ning the Tuanku Jaa­far Chal­lenge Tro­phy. Mary Phoon emerged the best stu­dent from the CLP class of 2013.

This con­vo­ca­tion also saw the launch­ing of the ATC Out­stand­ing Alumni Award to be pre­sented yearly to for­mer stu­dents of ATC who have achieved great things af­ter grad­u­a­tion. This year, four of th­ese awards were pre­sented.

“The suc­cess of our stu­dents on dis­play here tonight is a tes­ta­ment to the ded­i­ca­tion and hard work put in by the fac­ulty at ATC,” said Dr Choong.

ATC is of­fer­ing sev­eral re­bates and schol­ar­ship schemes to stu­dents who are in­ter­ested in join­ing it for the A-Lev­els and Busi­ness Cour­ses.
