Keep an eye on your loved ones

MOBILE app developer Secq.me has partnered with Maxis to introduce a new security mobile app called Circle Watch which allows parents to watch over their loved ones, as they go about their daily routine.

Secq.me co-founder Chin XinCi was a victim of attempted kidnapping two years ago (bit.ly/ LDFuBR) and this drove her to start making safety apps.

How it works

Circle Watch uses the smartphone’s location tracking capability to monitor family members added to your “circle.”

The user can designate Safe Zones such as a house, school or tuition centre — the user will get an instant notification should the tracked person arrive or leave one of these zones.

There is no limit on the number of Safe Zones users can set.

“The primary user will receive an automatic alert via SMS whenever a person using the app leaves or enters the Safe Zone,” said Watch Over Me business development manager Vincent Wong.

The app even works if the users are on different networks, as long as the primary user is a Maxis subscriber.

All they have to do is register their phone number with the app.

Keeping tabs on users

For added personal security, the app has a Watch Over Me function for ensuring that the user reaches the destination safely.

For example, users could turn on Watch Over Me when they walk home from school, and if they don’t reach the destination by the set time, an SMS alert will be sent out to the primary user.

Don’t panic

Should the person get into trouble, he or she can press the app’s panic button or shake the phone to send an alert to their emergency contacts.

Also, when the app is in Panic Alert mode, it will automatically send a link containing a recorded audio and video captured with the smartphone.

The emergency contact will also receive the location history of the member in the circle.

Users can download Circle Watch for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, and enjoy a free one month trial.

After that users will have to pay a monthly fee of RM3 for every two devices registered with Circle Watch.

Users can choose to have it charged to their phone bill or pay through the app.
