Convert a spare room into a private retreat

- By ELLEN WHYTE

DO you have a spare room that’s hardly ever used? Turn it into a private retreat where you can recharge your batteries with the help of these tips.

create fuss-free lines. Simplicity adds a touch of austerity that’s perfect for meditation and getting away from a consumer-mad world.

creating a simple space without hidden corners has the added bonus of preventing those awkward dust bunnies from forming.

Throw out anything you don’t need, drop the bed to the floor, opt for inbuilt cupboards or floor to ceiling cupboards, and use glassfronted cabinets rather than open shelves. if you haven’t really got round to decorating the spare room, give it a touch of fresh paint and hang some pictures.

a firm mattress with huge pillows and a bolster that you can put your feet up on can turn a bed into a luxury lounging area.

make sure that everything you might need is within easy reach: you will need a small table that can hold designer cups of tea and magazines.

create a vanity area. a vanity table by the window is perfect for those times when you decide to give yourself a total makeover.
