TEAMWORK is important. It is the key. Do not be nervous. Enjoy the stage while performing.” This was the advice given by K- pop boyband VIXX to Malaysian contestants during the 2015 K- Pop World Festival in Malaysia at Sunway Giza on Sunday.

Now into its 5th year, the K- Pop World Festival is an annual global K- pop competition organized by South Korea’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Malaysia is one of 63 countries taking part this year, and the finals will be held in South Korea in October. The Malaysian leg of the festival is a joint collaboration by Astro, KBS World, and the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Malaysia.

The South Korean group served as judges for the preliminary auditions in Malaysia, where two Grand Prize winners get to represent Malaysia at the Grand Finals in Changwon City, Korea. Alex Goh won in the vocal category, with his rendition of Johan Kim’s I Want To Fall In Love. Meanwhile Epsilon Kueen, who danced to BTS’s Danger, Concept Trailer, and Attack on Bangtan, as well as VIXX’s Voodoo Doll, won for the performance category. As for the remaining top ten finalists, Fuxion Dance Crew bagged the KBS World category award while HIM nabbed the VIXX category award.

As VIXX was formed in 2012 after its members participated in Mnet’s survival reality show MyDOL, the boys know best what it takes to survive a competition. Signed to South Korea’s Jellyfish Entertainment, VIXX is an acronym for Voice, Visual, Value in Excelsis. The six- man band comprises N ( Cha Hak- yeon), Leo ( Jung Taek- woon), Ken ( Lee Jae- hwan), Ravi ( Kim Won- sik), Hongbin ( Lee Hong- bin), and Hyuk ( Han Sang- hyuk). VIXX is known as a concept group whose performances tell stories with the boys all decked out in costumes, from vampires to zombies to robots.

Since VIXX just staged Utopia, the latest stop of their Live Fantasia concert in Singapore last month, fans have been clamouring for them to bring their show to Malaysia too. Band leader N thanked local fans for their continued support. “Besides our concerts, we also hope to bring other events and create more chances to meet and interact with fans here.”

2015 is very busy year for the boys, who are already busy with their fourth MBC reality show, titled VIXX’s One Fine Day. Earlier this year, VIXX took part in China’s BTV Spring Festival Global Gala, and represented Korea at the Taiwan’s 10th KKBOX Music Awards.

Hyuk is set to make his big screen acting debut in South Korean action comedy film Seize It To Live, while Ken has a leading role in the Chess musical. Ravi is a contestant on Mnet’s Show Me The Money 4, while N is a cast member of MBC Every 1’ s Bachelor Party and has a supporting role in SBS drama Family Outing.
