Life and all its challenges take a musical twist in Tick, Tick... Boom!

The year is 1990, and aspiring composer Jon has no idea what to do with his life.

Twenty- nine years old, with his next birthday around the corner, he really should have been more successful by now. his girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city, his best friend Michael is making big bucks on Madison Avenue, and yet Jon is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical.

Why isn’t he going anywhere? has he made the wrong choice by joining the performing arts?

Questions of dreams, passion and purpose form the heart of Tick Tick Boom!, a musical written by award- winning American composer Jonathan Larson. The acclaimed show, which premiered off- Broadway in 2001, will make its Malaysian debut at Theatre Lounge Cafe in Kuala Lumpur, starting June 19. “It’s a very relatable musical. Jon can represent almost every one of us. It makes you look at your life, or the people around you. It talks so much about real life, that I guarantee everyone will feel something,” says director Dominic Luk, 32, during a recent interview in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Tick, Tick ... Boom! stars Ivan Chan, Michelle Tan, and Aaron Teoh. The show is choreograp­hed by Megan Chng, with Loh Ui Li as musical director, and presented by Monday Show entertainm­ent through a special arrangemen­t with Music Theatre Internatio­nal ( MTI).
