Honouring aTC’s alumni

-

AT this year’s 25th Grand Convocation Ceremony held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre ( KLCC), ATC honoured two of its outstanding alumni who were working adults at the time they pursued their University of London’s Bachelor of Laws ( LLB) with ATC.

Datuk Pahamin A Rajab, who is known for being instrumental in the setting up of AirAsia where he was the founding chairman for seven years, is one of ATC’s own. he completed his LLB degree via the University of London Programme in 1990 and went on to do his CLP in 1997 and was called to the Malaysian Bar in 2001. Prior to embarking on his law degree, from the 1970s, Pahamin served with the Malaysian Government in the administrative and diplomatic service. he has the distinction of being the only officer of the service who served at every level of government administration and management, which allowed him to gain vast experience and knowledge in that field. he was able to complete the University of London’s LLB at ATC while juggling his numerous duties as an officer of the Government.

Another notable member of ATC’s alumni is Datuk Teng Chang Khim. Teng was previously elected as the Selangor state legislative assembly speaker. he graduated from the University of London’s LLB Programme in 1993 and completed his studies at ATC. he too has served in various positions in the Government.

From 1984 to 1990, he was an interpreter with the courts. he then went on to become the political secretary to Lim Kit Siang and it was during this time that he completed his LLB. Soon thereafter, he moved on into legal practice and was a lawyer from 1995 to 2008. Teng maintained his active involvement in politics and in 1995, was elected as Bukit Gasing state assemblyman. In 2004, he became the elected representative for Sungai Pinang. he was re- elected in 2008 and 2013 and is now the representative of Sungai Pinang.

Both Pahamin and Teng were working professionals when they read their LLB at ATC. With the University of London’s LLB Programme at ATC and the institution’s mission to provide quality legal education with intense classes and revision programmes, individuals from all walks of life have an opportunity to graduate with an internationally recognised and renowned law degree. One of the core aims of ATC is to allow individuals who are employed access to classes, materials and tutorials so they are able to pursue their legal education despite their work commitments and heavy schedules.
