Get ready for a busy fasting month

- By JC ROBERT Star Radio Group

THE kids are now back in school after a two- week term break.

Still it was not quite a breather for commuters as traffic was hectic going out of the city as well as coming in, as some parents were taking their time off for holidays with the family.

Interestingly, it is also in this month that our Muslim friends welcome the holy month of Ramadan, the same week as the children get back from their term break.

Traffic on the first week of Ramadan is usually busy especially on weekends as some people are driving home to be with their family and friends for buka puasa do.

Based on our observations, the evening rush hour traffic will disperse slightly early as Muslim employees get to leave an hour earlier.

Ramadan bazaars, where all the delicious spread of sweet delicacies are can be found in many streets across neighbourhoods, are good places to check out but please be mindful and do not double park okay?

After a month of fasting, balik kampung rush will be the next agenda in line.

Better get your vehicles serviced earlier or face the longer waiting time at service centres. Do not wait till the last minute.

Also plan your journey ahead and let us know of your preferred travelling time so we can gauge the traffic flow for the upcoming Raya exodus.

While heavy traffic is expected, we can at least be well prepared to ensure the journey home is safe and pleasant.

Another recurring trend seen each year is the last minute shopping.

We understand some people prefer to wait till the very last minute to get the best deal around but be prepared for the long queues at the malls and bazaars.

Places along Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman and Jalan Masjid India are where most of the shopping action will take place. Festive mood is definitely in the air. We all ( maybe not all) know we used to spend a significant amount of time daily commuting in bad traffic but let’s not spoil the mood to splurge, don’t we all agree?
