Un­der the ba­ton of Ja­panese con­duc­tor Kazuki Ya­mada, the MPO will en­thrall its au­di­ence with Brahms’ Ser­e­nade No. 2 In A, and Zem­lin­sky’s Die See­jungfrau ( The Mer­maid) that was based by Han Chris­tian An­der­sen’s fairy­tale The Lit­tle Mer­maid.

For Haydn’s Trum­pet Con­certo In E flat, the MPO will col­lab­o­rate with renowned trum­peter Pa­cho Flores. On Sun­day, he will give an eclec­tic recital, em­brac­ing mu­sic by 10 com­posers from five coun­tries.

SATUR­DAY: A sight for sore eyes – that’s The Sam Wil­lows Band, a quar­tet from Sin­ga­pore which boasts all the trap­pings of in­tri­cate pop mu­sic. The band, formed in 2012, is made up of sib­lings Narelle and Ben­jamin Kheng, and their bud­dies San­dra Ri­ley Tang and Jonathan Chua.

In­stant suc­cess is a rar­ity, but the band raced off the blocks with its epony­mous de­but EP the year it was formed, and re­leased a long player last year, Take Heart.

MARCH 18: It’s a hat trick with house sounds as the third in­stal­ment of It’s All About Mu­sic kicks in, this time around, fea­tur­ing Chicago House le­gend Mar­shall Jef­fer­son. As one of the found­ing fa­thers of the genre, Jef­fer­son will bring his ex­per­tise to a one- night af­fair that prom­ises fin­ger- snap­ping and head- bop­ping ... and plenty of danc­ing. REG­IS­TER BY NOON TO­MOR­ROW: On Satur­day, the Penang Her­itage Trust is con­duct­ing a site visit to the Penang Chi­nese Cham­ber of Com­merce. Es­tab­lished in June 1903, the PCCC was the first Chi­nese Cham­ber of Com­merce in Malaya and one of the pi­o­neer trade or­gan­i­sa­tions in this re­gion at the turn of the 20th cen­tury. The Pres­i­dent of the Penang Her­itage Trust, Lim Gaik Siang, who is well versed with its his­tory and ar­chi­tec­ture, will give a talk and share some early pho­tos of this es­tab­lish­ment. This is a rare op­por­tu­nity as PCCC opens its doors to PHT; it is closed to the pub­lic on other days.
