Helping students achieve dreams

-

INTERNATIONAL Medical University ( IMU) graduate and scholarship recipient Yeo Wei Yan details her experience at the university:

I wanted to be a pharmacist since I was young. My dream came true when I was offered a scholarship to IMU.

In June 2011, when I received a phone call informing me that I was offered the IMU Bachelor of Pharmacy scholarship, I was overwhelmed by the good news.

As an IMU scholar, I have participated in countless activities such as the Scholars’ High Tea, the Faculty Appreciation Week and the Inter- Professional Forum, which certainly helped to foster camaraderie among the IMU scholars.

The IMU scholar committee is indeed a large family and I realised that each and every member of the group is special in their own way.

I treasure the bond that was formed between us and will not forget all the memories that were forged throughout these four years of my studies at IMU.

Not only that, these activities also served as a platform to build many valuable skills and I have learnt many values such as teamwork and leadership. I strongly believe that these values are of paramount importance to be an all- rounder.

It is above par to be a person who excels in academics, but it is certainly better to pursue a holistic approach and be a versatile person who has multiple skills.

Therefore, these values that I have learnt will serve as a stepping stone for me to embark on a more challenging future ahead.

The pharmacy programme is an exciting programme. During lectures, the basics and theory of pharmacology were the most intriguing.

I was also exposed to plenty of clinical knowledge and experience from the Objective Structured Clinical Examination ( OSCE) and hospital posting.

Both the OSCE and hospital posting gave me an insight into how to become a successful pharmacist in the future.

What attracted me most is the clinical side of the pharmacy programme at IMU. On top of that, IMU ensures that young undergraduate pharmacy students obtain the necessary exposure to pharmaceutical and retail pharmacy settings.

I am grateful and honoured to have been awarded this scholarship. Having graduated, I am now one step closer to fulfilling IMU’s aspirations as well as achieving my dream, which is to become a distinguished pharmacist in the near future.

IMU offers scholarships for its preuniversity ( one- year Foundation in Science programme) and most of its undergraduate programmes.

Awarded annually, the scholarships are in the form of tuition fee waivers. Scholarships are awarded for the degree programmes as full or partial ( 50%) tuition fee waivers. Tuition fee waivers from RM2,000 to RM6,000 are offered for the Foundation in Science.

Malaysian and international students who demonstrate academic excellence will be invited to apply for these scholarships through their offer letter.

IMU is Malaysia’s first and most established private medical and healthcare university with more than 24 years of dedicated focus in healthcare education.

Established in 1992, the university enjoys an international reputation and provides a high standard of education at the preuniversity, undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing professional development level.

IMU’s learning model is grounded on its core values, fostering students to become knowledgeable and competent healthcare professionals who are critical thinkers, reflective and proactive.

The aim is to create healthcare graduates who are committed to lifelong learning and imbued with a sense of good citizenship, leadership and ethical behaviour.
