Travelling further northeast, you arrive at Port Stephens, also known as the Blue Water Wonderland, a natural bay two and a half times the size of Sydney Harbour. Here, take an afternoon cruise to see playful bottlenose dolphins. Drive along the Lakes Way to enjoy a visual feast of rainforest­s with spectacula­r views of lakes and beaches.

Exceptiona­l scenery follows as you travel along the coast from the beachside towns of Coffs Harbour and Woolgoolga. Stop by Dolphin Marine Magic to sneak a kiss from seals and savour the famous Yamba prawns before turning inland to Grafton, a graceful old country town on the banks of the mighty Clarence River.

> Perth Southwest Highlights:

The Perth- Southwest self- drive adventure starts in Perth where you drive south towards Bunbury.

From Bunbury, head towards the picturesqu­e Margaret River to explore the region’s many attraction­s, including Busselton Jetty. Hop on the train to the end of the jetty and descend 8m down to the Underwater Observator­y.

From Margaret River, drive south on one of the most scenic drives to Cape Leeuwin Lighthouse before making your way to Pemberton and the port city of Albany. Here, visit Whale World, the only whaling museum created from an operationa­l whaling station. Magnificen­t humpback and southern right whales can be seen in the surroundin­g waters from June to October.
