The 8D7N Western Explorer itinerary is a great introduction to the vast Western Canadian wilderness. Your journey begins in Vancouver, with a day to explore the city’s sights such as the Vancouver Lookout Tower for a bird’s- eye view of the city. The next day, a change of scenery awaits you as you board the star of your journey, the Rocky Mountaineer train. Pass by the green hills of Fraser Valley, the tall peaks of the Coast Mountains, and the raging waters of Hells Gate. Getting closer eastwards, the scenery opens up to sprawling pine forests and dusty desert hills before you arrive at Kamloops.
The next day, continue further eastwards to Jasper on the Rocky Mountaineer train, but not before passing by some serenely surreal natural landmarks – among them are the Thompson River along the walls of the Fraser Canyon, Pyramid Falls and Albreda Icefields. Jasper is an outdoorsy haven – the Jasper National Park is home to an array of wildlife such as elk, caribou and grizzly bears.
Before arriving at the turquoise- tinged waters of Lake Louise, a coach transfer will bring you to the Columbia Icefields and Athabasca Falls for an exploration of glaciers.
Revel in the beauty of Yoho National Park, which houses the Spiral Tunnels and Emerald Lake.
Next on your journey is Banff National Park, Canada’s first Unesco- protected park.
The highlights of this day are the gondola ride up to Sulphur Mountain and the helicopter summit over the majestic Canadian Rockies. The trip ends in the quaint prairie city of Calgary,
known for its cowboy legacy.
