New trump hotel
A LUXURY hotel bearing Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's name is set to open in Washington DC, just months before Americans head to the polls to vote.
The US$ 200mil ( RM840mil) Trump International Hotel, Washington DC will open in September, transforming a historical landmark, the Old Post Office Pavilion, into a luxury hotel located on Pennsylvania Avenue which connects the White House and the United States Capitol.
Originally scheduled to open in 2018, developers have been steamrolling ahead to finish the hotel in time for the US election in November.
Soaring windows, 5m ceilings, intricately restored stonework, original wood milling and panelling and crystal chandeliers will embellish the 263 guestrooms and suites including the Trump Townhouse, which will be the largest suite in DC at 585 sq m and boasts a separate entrance off of Pennsylvania Avenue.
The hotel will feature a sprawling meeting and event space including a Presidential Ballroom that is also slated to be the largest in the city.
The Old Post Office is the second tallest building in DC after the Washington Monument at 96m and the clock tower more than a century old. The building's Bells of Congress were replicas of London's Westminster Abbey.
The hotel made headlines last year when famous chef Jose Andres – a Spanish native – backed out of the project following Trump's controversial comments on illegal Mexican immigration. – AFP Relaxnews
