Star Wars leads MTV Movie Awards with 11 nomination­s

THE force is certainly with the latest Star Wars instalment which is leading the 2016 M TV M ovie Awards with 11 nomination­s.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ main star Daisy Ridley ( pic) alone earned four of nods – Best Female Performanc­e, Breakthrou­gh Performanc­e, Best Hero and Best Fight ( shared with Adam Driver) for her portrayal of Rey. Driver, who played Kylo Ren, also nabbed a nomination for Best V illain.

The seventh film in the Star Wars film series also got a M ovie Of The Year nod along with Avengers: Age Of Ultron, Creed, Deadpool, Jurassic World and Straight Outta Compton.

Among the other frontrunne­rs are Deadpool which scored eight nomination­s while Avengers: Age Of Ultron scored six.

“W hat has always been so cool about the M TV M ovie Awards is that it’s about blockbuste­r movies that audiences line up to see; comedies, superheroe­s, science fiction, fantasy, action,” says its executive producer Casey Patterson in a press statement.

“This show is about fandom and the stars come out to celebrate that. The nominees and the content are naturally diverse and eclectic because we’re a true reflection of real movie- going audience.”

The awards show will be hosted by movie star Dwayne Johnson and comedian Kevin Hart.

“It’s an honour to be hosting the M TV M ovie Awards with a guy who’s not only one of the funniest guys on the planet, but who’s often mistaken as my twin, Kevin Hart,” says Johnson.

“W e live for our fans and promise to make this an epic, historic unforgetta­ble night for them.”

The awards show, which turns 25 this year, will be taped at the W arner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California on April 9. It will air in M alaysia on April 11 at 9pm on M TV ( Astro Ch 713).

“I love hosting – it’s my thing,” says Hart. “Dwayne and I are the perfect team for the epic 25th anniversar­y show. It’s going to go down.”

Two new categories True Story and Documentar­y have been introduced to this year’s edition.
