CLASSICAL MAStErPIECES WItH tHE MPO Dewan Filharmonik Petronas Level 2, tower 2 Petronas twin towers Jalan Ampang Kuala Lumpur City Centre Kuala Lumpur tel: ( 03) 2331 7007
tOMOrrOW & SAtUrDAY: The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra ( MPO) will continue to dazzle fans of classical music when it presents two uniquely startling musical works.
The MPO will open the concerts with Mozart’s Symphony No. 25 in G minor with pathos, passion, bitterness and a feeling of restless agitation pervading this music. This work is Mozart’s most personal, intense and emotionally charged score. The mood of dark struggle and despair dominates the central section whilst the final movement gives a brilliant ferocity that drives the symphony to its stirring conclusion.
Then comes Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 11, which is subtitled “The Year 1905”. This is one of a dozen programmatic works that deals with the various events in Russian and Soviet history. The work refers to a peaceful demonstration to petition aid that turned into a “Bloody Sunday”.
All works will be conducted by the now- familiar Hans Graf, who has collaborated with renowned orchestras such as the Vienna, St Petersburg and London Philharmonics, Leipzig Gewandhaus, Budapest Festival, Danish Radio and Sydney Symphonies.
Tickets are priced from RM60 to RM150. For more info, call the number above, visit www. mpo. com. my, or e- mail dfp_ boxoffice@ petronas. com. my for ticket bookings. Time: 8.30pm.
