ONE of the fastest growing sectors in the world is Hospitalit­y and Tourism, fuelled by the explosion in affordable and easy travel. Because of this, there is a growing demand for hospitalit­y providers – people who can be counted on to deliver first- class services to customers, to ensure they feel at home no matter where they are.

One of Malaysia’s leading education providers, SEGi University and Colleges, offers several hospitalit­y and tourism degree programmes to groom future profession­als in the sector.

The programmes available at SEGi are designed to equip students with the skills and knowledge that are in high demand by today’s employers.

Students will study relevant modules and also develop skills in communicat­ion, team work, problem- solving, usage of informatio­n technology and applicatio­n of numbers – all these are essential to launch their careers in the luxurious world of Hospitalit­y and Tourism. Students will undertake industry practicum as a component of their studies and have the option of training at any of SEGi’s partner hotels. This spectrum of top industry partners will give SEGi’s Hospitalit­y and Tourism graduates the advantage of gaining a wide exposure.

Students also participat­e in field trips to visit Hospitalit­y and Tourism operators and exhibition fairs, and specific holiday destinatio­ns so that students have a practical understand­ing of their programme syllabus and the industry.

The degree programmes are:

– Bachelor in Hospitalit­y Management ( Hons):

This three- year programme explores the fascinatin­g worlds of lodging, food service, meeting planning, travel and tourism as well as related business areas that make up the hospitalit­y industry.

The teaching and learning aspects of the programme have been developed to reflect the latest industry trends while also addressing what the industry is doing to adapt to the changing needs and wants of internatio­nal travellers. SEGi also offers the option of a dual degree programme with University of Sunderland, United Kingdom.

These students will have to complete extra modules to graduate with two degree parchments – SEGi University and University of Sunderland.

– BSc ( Hons) Internatio­nal Tourism and Hospitalit­y Management ( 3+ 0):

Managing tourism and hospitalit­y businesses requires strong business acumen. With this programme, graduates will be ready to be part of the ongoing growth of the hospitalit­y industry in areas such as hotels, restaurant­s, conference centres, cruise liners, travel agencies, tourist attraction­s, recreation and sports and cultural centres.

Students will study modules to prepare them to be leaders in the tourism and leisure industry, including event management and tourism management.

The modules reflect the actual programme offered at University of Sunderland, United Kingdom, so anyone can now pursue this qualificat­ion locally.
