Home away from home

-

WHEN your daughter enters the Boarding House in the extensive and beautiful grounds of Presbyterian Ladies’ College Melbourne, she joins PLC’s outstanding academic community while enjoying a happy, nurturing and supportive “home away from home”.

Through a special orientation programme for new boarders, girls are quickly made to feel welcome. They meet families from their home countries and many parts of the world as well as around Australia.

When parents return home, they are confident in the knowledge that their daughters are in safe hands with professional PLC staff, all who are sensitive to adolescent issues and fully trained to provide a safe, orderly and peaceful boarding house.

The PLC education gives students a peerless foundation for future study at tertiary institutions in Australia and around the world, leading to many career opportunities.

Many alumni occupy senior positions across almost every field of endeavour and PLC students were the first women to graduate from the prestigious University of Melbourne.

In the 21st century, PLC girls continue this standard of excellence. In 2015, 14% achieved a tertiary rank that placed them in the top 1% of students in Australia, 30% were placed in the top 2%, 47% in the top 5% and 66% were placed in the top 10%.

The median Australian Tertiary Entrance Rank ( ATAR) was an astonishing 94.40.

All graduates qualified for a place in a tertiary institution, with over 75% gaining an offer at either the University of Melbourne or Monash University.

PLC’s senior academic programme offers students the choice of the Victorian Certificate of Education and International Baccalaureate.

PLC understands that well- rounded students are immersed in a wide range of experiences that allows them to explore and develop their interests.

Each element of a PLC education aims to nurture girls’ social, emotional, spiritual and physical development.

Its Music School offers a wide- ranging music programme and over 75% of girls learn an instrument.

Its orchestras, ensembles and choral groups are noted for their impressive quality and provide many opportunities to develop musical talents and perform to the very highest level.

Its state- of- the- art Performing Arts Centre, opening late this year, will take its music programme to a whole new level of excellence.

PLC is regarded for its commitment to service, social justice and improvement of people’s lives, both locally and overseas.

It encourages girls to develop the skills and insights to gain a clear sense of identity, helping them lay the foundations for purposeful leadership as they embrace their role as leaders of tomorrow.

Within its culture of kindness and generosity and the many opportunities provided by one of Australia’s top independent girls’ schools, your daughter will thrive and grow into a confident and independent young woman, equipped with the skills required to take full advantage of today’s modern world.
