KOREA Tourism Organisation ( KTO) will be participating in the upcoming MATTA Fair, highlighting the filming locations of Descendants of the Sun, the rise of tourism in sports activities such as marathons, interesting places to visit in the south- eastern part of South Korea, as well as variety of fun festivals during the autumn and winter seasons. Due to immense popularity across the globe, the filming locations used for the drama have been attracting fans worldwide.
In conjunction with this huge impact on Korea tourism, major locations have been developed as tourist attractions.
– The Introduction of marathon tourism in South Korea
With the rising of marathon activities globally, Korea Tourism Organisation is introducing marathon tourism to Malaysians.
There are four major marathon events in South Korea – Chuncheon Chosunilbo International Marathon ( Oct 23), Jeju Mandarin International Marathon ( Nov 13), Seoul International Marathon ( March) and Gyeongju Cherry Blossom Marathon ( April 1, 2017).
– The beauty of the south- eastern part of Korea – Gyeongsang
The southern part of Korea has its own beauty and has become the favourite place to visit throughout the four seasons. The region to focus on is the Gyeongsang ( Southeastern) where divisions such as Busan, Daegu, Ulsan, North Gyeongsang ( Gyeongsangbuk- do) and South Gyeongsang ( Gyeongsangnam- do) are located.
– Winter escapade in Gangwon- do
The mountainous regions in Gangwon- do receive snowfall starting in early winter, making the province a popular destination for winter. As the host for upcoming 2018 Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Gangwon province is surely the right getaway for the ultimate winter experience.
– Fun festivals to experience in South Korea
With the slogan “All for all and all for one in Busan”, Busan One Asia Festival, a much- anticipated musical festival, will be held in the bustling city of Busan. The festival is said to be the representative in the cultural context of Asia, which is set to proliferate the dynamic image of Busan and the Korean Wave to the world.

Known as one of the most popular festivals, the Busan Fireworks Festival takes place every October along the Gwangalli Beach.

The major cultural attraction for Andong is the Andong Mask Dance Festival, which has over 50 events and hands- on experience programmes.
Festival date: Sept 30- Oct 9
Masan is where the Gagopa Chrysanthemum Festival is held every October. The festival presents a variety of activities such as cultural programmes, food tasting and more.
Festival date: Oct 29- Nov 7
KCON 2016 Jeju will be held again this year in Jeju Island – the only KCON held in South Korea.
A concert of the hottest K- pop stars will take place on the night of Oct 29, and performances of the newest K- pop stars will be available on the sub- stage of the convention hall.

Hwacheon Sancheoneo Festival is one of the popular winter festivals in Gangwon, chosen as one of the seven wonders of winter.
Based on the festival’s great success in 2015, the Viva Ski Festival is back again this year.
