High rate of employability

-

RECENTLY ranked among the world’s top 100 universities under the age of 50 by the Times Higher Education and for world- class graduate employability by the QS rankings, the education at Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, is undoubtedly first- rate.

Its only campus outside of Australia, in Sarawak, offers the same high- quality education. It has the same programmes and maintains the same academic standards as its parent campus.

Swinburne University of Technology Sarawak Campus ( Swinburne Sarawak) emphasises industry- engaged teaching and learning, just like its Australian campus.

It has been producing professionally oriented graduates with the skills that match industry needs by merging teaching, research and industry expertise with a supportive real- world learning environment, since its inception in 2000.

Over the past few years, its graduate tracking shows that more than 90% of its graduates are absorbed by industries six months after their graduation. Only four months after receiving their scrolls in October last year, 93.53% were employed.

This could be attributed to the hands- on focus of Swinburne’s programmes that tackles realworld issues. Accredited by professional bodies, its business, computing, design, engineering and science programmes are identical to those of its home campus.

From foundation studies to the bachelor’s, master’s and PhD ( Doctor of Philosophy) programmes, students may decide on pathways that suit their interests and career aspirations.

As the curriculum is sourced from its home campus, a Swinburne Sarawak graduate is awarded the same Australian degree as his or her peers at the Melbourne campus.

The university helps to enrich students’ study experience with mobility options. While the programmes may be completed entirely at Swinburne Sarawak, degree students may opt to transfer to its Melbourne campus to conclude their degrees.

Alternatively, they can sign up for an exchange programme for one semester at the home campus while being subjected to the Swinburne Sarawak tuition fees.

Students are able to obtain a globally recognised qualification with only a third of the tuition fees of its Australian campus.

Most of its three- year degrees require undertaking a professional major with either a co- major or two minors. Co- majors and minors may be different from the discipline of the major so that they may add breadth to their major.

Students are able to choose from a diverse range of subjects from other discipline areas. This enables them to develop an appreciation of other disciplines that will complement their profession and further education prospects.

Besides academic pursuits, there are many extracurricular sports and recreational clubs on campus that add variety to student life.

Advised by staff, the clubs offer a holistic university experience as well as provide fun and educational activities, which help to mould students into well rounded individuals.

Looking into the interests of students and helping new ones adjust to university life, the student council organises events and activities to enliven and enrich student life. These activities encourage interaction and foster cross- cultural understanding among the many nationalities on campus.

As a university of technology, Swinburne Sarawak facilities are highly advanced. Its 350- capacity lecture theatre is equipped with the latest audiovisual technology. The library accommodates more than 750 people and offers learning resources and services to support the university’s teaching, learning and research programmes.

As an incentive for them to excel academically, scholarships and bursaries await newly enrolled students with public examination results that meet the criteria. Scholarships and bursaries are also awarded to those who meet the requirements in their semester examinations.
