Denim continues to be a winner in Autumn/ Winter 2016

The Star Malaysia - Star2 - - STYLE -

ALTHOUGH fall is the perfect time to refresh our wardrobes, let's not forget that some pieces are timeless.

Denim, which continues to be on trend this season in both clothing and accessories, is a case in point. Jeans are cool and timeless, no question. But for Autumn/ Winter 2016, designers and big- name brands have decided to take denim in an unexpected direction either by combining it with other fabrics such as tweed, or using it for unusual pieces such as long coats.

Here’s a review of the denim creations seen at the latest catwalk shows.

Washed- out denim

Some brands only had a few denim pieces in their latest collection, while others went for it in a big way.

At Miu Miu, denim was everywhere, used for shirts decorated with badges, pearls or lace, as well as for long skirts, jackets and light extra- long coats.

To a lesser extent, Paul and Joe and Stella McCartney also chose to honour this fashion perennial.

The former used it for trousers and jackets in a very masculine style, whereas the latter chose it in washed- out form for a button- down dress and an XXL jacket worn like a coat.

A few denim pieces were featured in the fall collections of other brands such as Roberto Cavalli ( trousers, jackets and shirts with a plunging neckline), and Blumarine ( plain or print trousers).

Denim a la Chanel

Chanel surprised many at its Parisian show by unveiling a lot of pieces featuring denim as it is not a fabric the brand normally uses.

But this season, Karl Lagerfeld decided to bring denim into the 21st century by combining it with pink fuchsia tweed.

At Chanel's show, denim had never looked so smart, finding its way into tailored jackets, bags, hats and gloves, and combined with tweed, silk, embroidery and pearls.

The collection was anchored in the fashion house's DNA, but had a fresh, modern feel with touches of sportswear. – AFP Relaxnews
