THE third edition of the EUREKA Innovation Exhibition 2016 ( EIE 2016) was successfully organised by Universiti Kuala Lumpur Malaysian Spanish Institute ( UniKL MSI).

This annual innovation exhibition was held from Aug 16- 18 to promote the spirit of creativity and inventiveness among young Malaysians.

With the theme “Driven for a Better Future”, EIE 2016 international level attracted participations from primary, secondary and higher learning institutions, both locally and internationally.

The EIE 2016 shows UniKL MSI’s strong commitment to developing a platform for researchers to share the latest research and innovation that can benefit society in general.

The objective of the competition was to showcase the inventions designed by academicians, non- academicians and students from education institutions, including primary and secondary schools.

The competition also promotes an innovative culture not only among UniKL MSI’s students but also participants from local and international institutions of higher education.

It is also a link between education institutes and industries to share their products and creative ideas.

The exhibition’s closing ceremony was graced by Datuk Ibrahim Ahmad, director- general of Mara.

Also present were Prof Datuk Dr Mazliham Mohd Su’ud, president and chief executive officer of UniKL, the top management of Mara, UniKL, industrial partners, and academics from participating institutions as well as members of the media.

A total of 270 teams participated in six different categories, which recorded almost a 30% increase in participation compared to last year’s competition.

“The number and the quality of entries this year have increased from the previous year. It is hoped that potential innovations and inventions exhibited throughout EIE 2016 can be further developed as commercial products, which could bring great benefits to the advancement in the field of science and engineering.

“I also hope to see more active involvement from industrial partners to help elevate the culture for innovation and invention in Malaysia,” said Ibrahim in his closing speech.
