Thirty years of excellence
“A BIG thank you to ATC’s principal and chief executive officer Dr Danny Choong, all my lecturers and classmates for their kind encouragement during the entire duration of my degree. I could not have pulled this off without them – this achievement is as much theirs as it is mine,” said Lee Mei Xian, ATC’s recent success story who was awarded a First Class Honours Law Degree (LLB) from the University of London for its May 2015 examination.
Founded in 1987, ATC has helped fulfil the dreams of many in receiving credible legal qualification by providing the prestigious 3+0 LLB (University of London) programme.
Apart from imparting genuine legal knowledge, ATC has consistently strived to maintain high standards in the academic achievements of its students.
ATC’s LLB programme is uniquely structured to provide both full- and part-time classes in facilitating the various aspirations and needs of its students.
It understands that to initially orientate oneself to the features and skills needed to study law can be daunting. Therefore, informative introductory classes are usually provided at the early stages of the course to help build students’ confidence.
ATC has an equal mix of lecturers coming from both the academic and legal practice world, not only to impart legal knowledge but also to help shape the minds of its undergraduates.
The study of LLB develops a critical appreciation of the English common law tradition in students and at the same time, hones their ability to think and write analytically and argumentatively.
Its lectures provide thorough understanding of the various dynamic areas of English law while the tutorials are focused on equipping students with the correct examination techniques.
As an affiliate centre of the University of London, ATC benefits from lectures provided occasionally by visiting lecturers from the university itself.
ATC students also benefit from the comprehensive sets of Law Reports, updated textbooks and related materials available in its Tun Abdul Hamid Law Resource Centre (Library).
A computer lab with Internet connection is also available, with the aim of encouraging undergraduates to improve their online research skills.
Taking the LLB can be an arduous journey but ATC maintains a culture of not leaving its students alone. Those who need guidance are always able to seek personal assistance from the faculty members.
Besides, student activities such as Mooting competition, Law Careers Fair, Sports’ Day and Students’ Night are held throughout the year to make the LLB journey a memorable one.
ATC is celebrating 30 years of excellence this year and has a proud record of being the nation’s only private law school that has produced 16 First Class graduates for the University of London’s International Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Programme.
To constantly improve and continue the tradition of producing world-class graduates, ATC is further developing its LLB course by offering interesting modules such as Civil and Criminal Procedure and International Protection of Human Rights.
