Learning is fun
WHAT’S your favourite subject in school? Do you like Art, Mathematics or Science? Many students enjoy Art lessons which provide a channel for them to explore their creativity. Some like Pendidikan Jasmani (Physical Education) as it takes them out of the classroom for some fun activities.
According to a study, students in Japan spend on average 235 minutes per week in a Maths class. In Sweden, students can choose to study at a gymnasium for three years and pick a programme devoted to a particular field such as Science, Aesthetics or Civics. How interesting!
Since education is so important in a child’s life, some countries are changing their education systems to prepare the future generation for working life. Recently, Starchild asked readers to send in letters on the topic, My Favourite Subject. Let’s hear what they have to say:
Lara Alisha Colin, 11, writes: “I love English Language because I like to write just like Mum. I like to read a lot of English story books to improve my vocabulary. It helps me to write and read better too.”
Sibling Erin Sonia Colin, eight, says: “I like Mathematics. I like calculating because it makes my brain work and be active. I spend an average of one to two hours a day working on mathematical problems to improve my skills.”
“I enjoy Art classes because I love to draw. It gives me a chance to exercise my imagination. Madam Wong is my Art teacher,” says Rayna Kam Shin Rui, seven.
“My favourite subject is Science. Science is amazing, interesting and fun. I love learning about magnets. I like Science because it is all about discoveries,” writes Yashvvini Raj, eight.
Kirthysha Vengadesh, nine, says, “My favourite subject is Mathematics. I like to solve Maths problems. My Mathematics teacher is Naryati. I do a lot of maths exercises to score in my tests.”
“My favourite subject is Science. I like it because it is fun and I get to do experiments. I learn about plants, magnets and robots,” says Inesh Dhayal, six.
Khumudha Kirupananthan, five, writes, “I love English Language. A good grasp of English helps me to read a lot of books.”
