THE PC gaming industry has seen a renaissance in recent years with the rise of eSports and competitive gaming.

Being the largest PC maker in the world, it’s only apt for Lenovo to go all out into the gaming scene, the latest being its dedicated sub-brand called Legion.

Leading the way will be two gaming laptops, namely the Legion Y520 and Legion Y720.

The Y520 will be the entry-level model, featuring the latest seventhgeneration Intel Core i5 processor, 4GB RAM, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 2GB GDDR5 graphics card and a 1TB hard disk.

Other specs include a 15.6in fullHD IPS display with anti-glare and Harman certified speakers with Dolby Audio Premium tuning.

Three additional configurations are also available with options such as an Intel Core i7 processor, 8GB RAM and 2TB hard disk.

The Y520 price starts from RM3,299 for the base model all the way to RM5,419 for the high-end variant.

According to Lenovo country general manager for Malaysia and Singapore Khoo Hung Chuan, the global PC gaming market is worth more than US$500mil (RM2.2bil) a year and Malaysia is among the top 25 markets in the world.

“The Legion brand will be targeting gamers who are performance driven, highly sociable and engaged, especially those who research extensively before making their purchase.

“Moving forward, we will continuously engage with the gaming community, understand them better and build better products for gamers,” said Khoo.

On the higher end of the spectrum, the Y720 – priced from RM6,099 – caters to hardcore gamers with its bold, silk-printed aluminium design and red speaker grills.

Even better, gamers who want to stand out from the crowd can go for the optional multi backlit keyboard which can be customised with different colour combinations for a flashy gaming experience.

For performance, the Y720 is powered by an Intel Core i7 processor and features 8GB RAM, a Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB GDDR5, and a 1TB hard disk.

According to Lenovo, the Y720 is among the rare laptops that are VR-ready thanks to the GTX 1060 graphics card.

Other customisable options include an upgrade from a regular 15.6in full HD display all the way to 4K resolution and faster SSD (solid state drive) storage.

Lenovo also claims that the Y720 is the world’s first Dolby Atmoscertified laptop.

Combined with the built-in JBL speakers, the laptop is said to be able to deliver the best audio experience for gaming.

While the company has released gaming PCs under the Lenovo brand name in the past, all gaming laptops and desktops will now carry the Legion brand name moving forward.

The Y520 is available now while the Y720 is expected to hit the market at the end of March.
