Designing the future

-

ACCORDING to Robert L. Peters, “Design creates culture. Culture shapes values. Values determine the future.”

This quote embodies everything First City University College aspires to be: producing quality graduates who can create innovative designs and add value to people’s lives and the world around them.

The institution takes pride in its design programmes that offer holistic design education – combining its experience in running UK franchised programmes for over 20 years, harnessing the vast knowledge and teaching ability of its academic staff and complementing it with stateoftheart facilities and equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutter and Macintosh laboratories.

At the Faculty of Design and Built Environment, First City UC offers Foundation in Art and Design programme with pathways to pursue further undergraduate studies in graphic design, interior architecture and design as well as furniture and product design.

During the oneyear programme, students will be exposed to a general art and design education, enabling them to gain experience and knowledge in practical studio work, 2D and 3D design, research and writing skills for design.

The modules are specially crafted to develop student’s skills in visual analysis, fundamental drawing, colour studies, research and critical writing skills.

Once they complete the course, students would be able to start Year 1 of the degree programme of their choice.

Alternatively, students with strong interest and inclination for art and design can opt to pursue specialised twoyear diploma programmes in Interactive Design and Interior Design. Upon graduation, they have the advantage of getting into Year 2 of any design degree programme at First City UC.

> Strong industry collaboration

The faculty is well known for its collaboration with reputable universities in the United Kingdom and strong industrial linkages, offering reallife experience in the industry in its effort to provide the best learning experience for students.

This allows students to explore and work on actual projects outside the usual theatre lectures.

For example, the Graphic Design department arranges annual overseas design study trips during which students take part in workshops conducted by the host universities.

Students’ experience is enhanced through participation in competitions, both locally and internationally, where they have emerged as regular winners of design awards and accolades such as the MIID Reka Awards, Nippon Paint’s Asia Young Designer Award and more.

> Zero fees to start foundation studies

Students who wish to pursue the foundation programme can take advantage of the allinonepackage offer. If they register for any foundation programmes at First City UC and commit to continue with bachelor’s degree at the institution, they would be able to start their foundation classes with zero tuition fees for the first semester.

On top of that, First City UC further offers a 30% discount* off the first semester’s tuition fees when students continue their degree programmes after completing the foundation courses.

For diploma programmes, students can enjoy the early bird 30% waiver* off their tuition fees if they register with First City UC now.
