Expectant mothers learn breathing exercises to calm the mind and soothe the nervous system. A prenatal yoga class offers stretching and strengthen­ing postures that help release and tone the pelvic floor, easing birth and enhancing postnatal healing. The benefits of prenatal yoga include:

Surya Yoga offers a comprehens­ive resource guide to prenatal yoga classes in the Klang Valley. The first studio was establishe­d in 2006 in Aman Suria, Petaling Jaya.

Staffed by qualified teachers of varied background­s and training with a unique approach to living and teaching yoga, Surya Yoga offers various yoga styles and practices to meet specific needs and goals.

In 2015, Surya Yoga expanded its studios in Taman Bukit Segar in Cheras, Bukit Tinggi in Klang, Kuchai Lama and Sri Petaling.

Today, there are a total of 10 Surya Yoga studios, including studios in Bandar Puchong Jaya, Meranti Jaya, Kota Kemuning, Jenjarom and Banting.

Founder Josephine Chan is a certified yoga and prenatal yoga instructor with more than 15 years of teaching experience.

She received her qualificat­ions from Yoga Arts Australia under the mentorship of Louisa Sear and prenatal yoga training under Ana Davis from Australia.

Chan has taught prenatal yoga for more than nine years. She gives yoga workshops and teacher training courses.
