Irish qualification in Malaysia

- Perdana University offers the the 5+0 degree programme in medicine from the RCSI.

PERDANA University is the only private higher education institution in Malaysia to offer the 5+0 Medical Degree Programme in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI).

This ensures financial peace of mind for families of students as it enables students to complete an Irish medical degree entirely in Malaysia.

The programme is accredited by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) and is recognised by the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) and Irish Medical Council (IMC), enabling graduates to practise medicine anywhere in the world.

Students will be imbued with the knowledge, attitude and skills to serve as medical doctors in the community as they study biomedical science, clinical medicine, clinical competency and international health while developing personally and professionally.

Students at Perdana University study the same programme as medical students at RCSI.

The laboratories at Perdana University are well equipped and meet the standards of RCSI, having an anatomy museum, clinical skill unit, anatomy laboratory, multidisciplinary laboratory and computer laboratory.

Students also have access to resourceful libraries at the university and the online library of RCSI. They benefit from a teaching team that consists of academicians from RCSI.

Students are then sent to either Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Hospital Tuanku Ja’afar, Seremban or Hospital Putrajaya as part of their practical training.

Upon fulfilling all criteria, graduates obtain two titles:

Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery and Bachelor in the Art of Obstetrics (MB BCh BAO) of the National University of Ireland

LRCPI & SCI (Licentiates of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland and Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland)

To enable students to achieve their ambition of becoming medical doctors, there is a wide range of scholarships and financial aids available for students to pursue their studies, including the Perdana University Scholarship and, from other entities, the Jabatan Perkhidmatan Awam (JPA) scholarship and Perbadanan Tabung Pendidikan Tinggi Nasional (PTPTN).

Perdana University is projected to be an education research hub in the region to fulfil the needs of the nation for competent health science graduates.

The PU-RCSI’s dean Prof David Adam says, “Medicine is wonderful and offers a very rewarding career. We seek talented and bright young people who want to study medicine, will always put patients first, are adaptable and prepared to undertake a subject that will involve lifelong learning.”
