Realising the importance of English, the government has begun to help boost the English language learning as a means of pushing the younger generation towards being better able to compete with the global community.

Bachelor of Education (Hons) TESL straddles theories and practice and offers the opportunity to observe experienced lecturers. A group of motivated lecturers aim to assist students in meeting all their goals and needs throughout the course. This programme will arm graduates with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to effectively teach English as Second Language as well as linguistics and literature and they will also learn other languages such as Mandarin, Arabic and French.

In recent news, the Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) has voiced the continued shortage of qualified English-speaking workers and it is costing the country deeply. About 20,000 jobless graduates in Malaysia are facing problems to fill positions that require speaking and writing in English. Over 90% of respondents to the latest MEF Surveys 2016 indicated the need for graduates to improve English proficiency to be more employable.
To support the government and assist Malaysian citizens, City University also offers education scholarships to eligible students. The RM20mil worth of scholarships will be awarded to students who excel in different areas including academic excellence, leadership and sports. This is part of City University’s Corporate Social Responsibility as the main goal is to help those with financial constraints to ease the cost of tuition fees.
