UNITAR International University’s Faculty of Business Technology and Accounting (FBTA) is actively working towards creating a new league of graduates who are prepared to successfully compete in the new economy.

Recently, the faculty has retooled its programmes to ensure that its graduates are equipped with skills that are in demand for a workforce that will have to deliver “efficiency gains”, essential to attaining high-income status and thus, achieving Vision 2020.

In its concerted efforts to assist in capacity building for the accounting profession, FBTA offers a specially designed Bachelor of Accounting programme that allows students to pursue professional accounting qualification together with their academic qualification.

UNITAR’s Bachelor of Accounting pathway is the fastest route to chartered accountancy in the market.

Within six years, SPM graduates can become chartered accountants under ICAEW (Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales), the world’s most prestigious chartered accountancy body.

With industry partnership as its core guidance, the programme is designed with the 2U2I (two years at the university, two years at the industry) principle. During which students spend one full year in a structured internship in ICAEWauthorised accounting firms and departments.

The final year is uniquely tooled to ensure that students are able to continue working in those firms while completing the balance courses.

The faculty also offers a specialisation in internal audit whereby students can complete the Certified Internal Auditor certification in their final year.

In recognising the importance of entrepreneurship, for small businesses and start-ups to create better equity and progress within the population, UNITAR has incorporated massive innovation into the Bachelor of Management programme.

The programme offers two pathways – entrepreneurship pathway and the general manager (also known as SME) pathway.

Students who opt for the entrepreneurship pathway will undergo six-month internship in the UNITAR N*Cent (Centre for Entrepreneurship) Incubator, paired with successful entrepreneurs to give life to the start-up that they have worked on since year 1.

The programme within the incubator will introduce students to different types of funding sources available and hosts pitching sessions for funding on a regular basis.

In effect, these students will graduate as start-up owners ready to add jobs to the economy.

UNITAR is also introducing a new specialisation in data science to the Bachelor of Information Technology programme.

The new specialisation is developed in tandem with Microsoft with their professional certification in data science being embedded into the course.

Students who complete the programme will be ready for the big data industry, which will play a significant role in the new economy.

In addition, students completing the Bachelor of Information Technology programme will also gain the ICAEW CFAB (Certificate in Finance and Business).

The CFAB modules are embedded into the programme to ensure that IT graduates are well-versed in the world of business and are able to work hand in hand with all areas of business, thus creating unparallelled efficiency.

UNITAR offers a wide range of programmes at various levels, from diploma, degree, Master’s to PhD courses in the following specialisations:

UNITAR’s main campus in Kelana Jaya collaborates with six independent campuses throughout the country to assist more than 7,000 students nationwide in 60 academic programmes.
