A-LEVELS represents the gold standard for admission to the world’s top universities. Therefore, Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) is ramping up its efforts to provide the region’s best sixth form experience.
The KTJ Sixth Form (Years 12 and 13) currently hosts 280 students and has set a maximum of 300 students.
In 2015 and last year, the sixth form achieved remarkable results, with around 90% of grades in the A* to B category. Meanwhile, the world average is 53%.
Last year, from a cohort of 143 upper-sixth students, 23 achieved four straight-A* grades with 62 registering all A* or A grades in the A-Levels.
More than 55% of them accepted offers from UK Russell Group universities such as London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Imperial College London, University of Warwick, University College London (UCL), University of Cambridge and University of Oxford.
This year’s intake is even better with 61 offers from Warwick, 33 from LSE and UCL, 18 from Imperial and eight from Oxbridge.
In the United States, where far fewer students apply, offers have been received from Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), Brown University, Johns Hopkins University, University of California (UCLA) and Univesity of California, Berkeley.
KTJ offers long-term benefits to students through many other opportunities, along with highly experienced teachers who provide round-the-clock advice and guidance.
KTJ expects students to take advantage of the myriad extracurricular activities on offer, ranging from sports to a wide array of intellectual, cultural, scientific and artistic societies.
Top schools appreciate the importance of developing a super curriculum that goes beyond simple examination preparation to incorporate university visits and applications, Oxbridge prep, help with personal statements and internships, as well as preparation for interviews, International English Language Testing System (IELTS), National Admission Test for Law and SATs.
KTJ has been consistently winning top honours in local and regional competitions, attracting the attention of the Oxford & Cambridge Society Malaysia.
The 24/7 boarding school experience provides a fantastic preparation for university life overseas.
At KTJ, students develop independence, self-confidence and a community spirit. They learn to read deeply and discuss widely.
