New Tucson and Elantra introduced
THE new 2017 Hyundai Tucson SUV and upgraded Elantra sedan are now offered with powerful 1.6-litre turbo direct injected (T-GDI) petrol engines and a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission (7DCT). Both are locally assembled.
The T-GDI engined Tucson is priced at RM145,588 (on the road without insurance).
The T-GDI engine on the Tucson delivers 175hp at 5,500rpm and maximum torque of 265Nm from 1,500 to 4,500rpm.
According to Hyundai, when compared with rival continuously variable transmissions (CVT), the Hyundaideveloped 7DCT can handle more torque with minimal power interruption throughout the powertrain operating range during acceleration, and offers better durability.
“We will be introducing more Tucson variants in the coming months,” said Hyundai-Sime Darby Motors (HSDM) managing director Lau Yit Mun.
The T-GDI engined Tucson has new rims for a sporty look, LED positioning headlamps with Static Bending Lights, an Auto Hold function that automatically holds the brake when the car is at standstill, and a smart powered tailgate which opens at the approach of the key-holder.
Safety features include six airbags, vehicle stability management (VSM), hillstart assist control (HAC), downhill brake control (DBC) and electric parking brake (EPB).
Optional accessories include two leather packages for seats and interior door trimmings (colour options: red and white), body kit and 19-inch rims.
Meanwhile, the 2017 sixth-generation upgraded Hyundai Elantra is offered in three variants, namely the 2.0-litre MPI Executive (RM116,388) and Dynamic (RM120,588), and the Elantra Sport (RM131,488).
Prices are on the road without insurance.
The Elantra Sport also has a 7DCT mated to a 204ps T-GDI engine tuned for more power.
Highlights of the upgraded Elantra include features such as six airbags, VSM, HAC, hands-free Smart Trunk, a rear-view camera, Parking Guidance System, tyre pressure monitoring system, and Blind Spot Detection (for Elantra Sport only).
The Elantra Sport also gets features such as an auto defogging System, dual-zone auto climate control and rain-sensing wipers.
