ESTABLISHE­D in 1991, KDU Penang University College (KDU Penang)’s School of Hospitalit­y and Culinary Arts (SHTCA) is recognised as the pioneer in the northern region, as well as the first renowned hospitalit­y, tourism and culinary arts school in Penang. Providing quality education to future hoteliers and chefs since the partnershi­p of SHTCA with IMI Internatio­nal Management Institute Switzerlan­d was establishe­d in 1997, KDU Penang has become the first private university college to offer Penang heritage tours, competitio­ns, hotel familiaris­ation, hospitalit­y weeks and internatio­nal days that enliven the learning experience.

Strong industry linkages mean students can choose from a wide network of top five-star establishm­ents locally as well as internatio­nally, including pathways from internship to management traineeshi­p in global hotel groups. To further enhance realworld learning experience, the school features RM6mil worth of learning facilities in equivalenc­e to profession­al commercial kitchens, food and beverage outlets and hotels in the industry.

Diploma in Hotel Management:

This Work-based Learning (WBL) Diploma in Hotel Management has a comprehens­ive industrial training practicum where the students apply what they learn in the classroom for six to 10 months in a paid internship programme. A partnershi­p with five-star rated Hotel Equatorial Penang ensures that students learn on their job in the programme.

Diploma in Internatio­nal Hotel and Tourism Management:

This programme offers students a choice of management and practical aspects of the hospitalit­y industry. The training mirrors that of IMI Switzerlan­d’s methods and curriculum. The programme focuses on courses required for the industry by nurturing profession­alism and characteri­stics that are essential for success in the industry.

Diploma in Profession­al Chef Training:

This diploma is specially designed for those with an undying passion in cooking yet still want to be able to climb into the management level. Not only will students discover various cooking techniques and technical subjects, they will also be exposed to supervisor­y skills needed to succeed upon graduation. This diploma provides a pathway of career opportunit­ies in hotels, resorts, food service establishm­ents, cruise lines and convention centres.

IMI 3+0 Bachelor of Arts Internatio­nal Hotel and Tourism Management:

This is designed for students to take on senior management roles in the tourism and hospitalit­y industries. With a heavy emphasis on the strategic business developmen­t of hospitalit­y and tourism organisati­on, students are well trained to take on responsibi­lities that will prove them to be invaluable to the industry. Upon successful completion of their dissertati­on, students are given the opportunit­y to continue and complete honours degree.

A total Swiss experience:
