Find solutions to your everyday life

-

WITH all the problems we are facing in the world today, biotechnology is one field that can support society in searching for advances in diagnostics and treatment for diseases, improvement to agriculture products and development of the environment.

Biotechnology is technology based on biology and chemistry. Biology is the study of life and living organisms, which includes the study of genes and cells. Chemistry is the study of physical science, compositions, structures and all matters made up of atoms.

Help improve lives

Therefore, biotechnology is the process that develops products that help improve the lives and the health of the earth.

Infrastructure University Kuala Lumpur (IUKL) offers Diploma in Biotechnology and Bachelor of Biotechnology (Hons) for those who have an interest in finding solutions to everyday life’s problems.

Why should I take Diploma in Biotechnology?

Biotechnology is currently a blooming field in Malaysia. Companies and institutions are investing a huge amount of money and effort in advancing Biotechnology in Malaysia. This has created many job opportunities for future biotechnologists. Through biotechnology, students can venture into many different fields of expertise such as pharmaceutical, environmental, agricultural and food industries.

This programme is designed to produce specialised human resource equipped with the skills and know-how on new biological processes of commercial importance in a diverse range of industries such as pharmaceutical, agricultural, industrial, forensic and healthcare sectors.

Students will be exposed to practical knowledge of the foundation technologies for working with DNA, proteins, cells and molecules. They will also gain knowledge and exposure of different areas of biotechnology through educational visits, professional talks, exhibitions and industrial training – students will go for seven weeks of industrial training in the industry of their choice.

What should I expect?

This field of study is as interesting and challenging as any other programme. We may not be fully aware but biotechnology in the present has helped us live more comfortably as we have a cleaner environment and it has also helped us in having a healthier body and better food production.

Saving the human race

What’s challenging is that we live on food and we will keep producing food in the smaller areas of land we have as compared to what we’ve had before.

Saving the human race is the future of biotechnology and you can expect that what you will learn and do in the future will revolve around biotechnology.

What is the progression pathway after completing your Diploma?

Students can progress to the Bachelor of Biotechnology (Hons). This programme will expose students deeper to the field of biotechnology. Students will also be equipped with the latest biotechnology knowledge together with extensive hands-on experience in the state-of-the-art facilities in the faculty.

Besides progressing to your degree, diploma graduates can also join the workforce to gain experience. Graduates of this programme can join various Biotechnology industries as Laboratory Technologist, Sales Technical Support, Quality Control Technologist and such.

IUKL has received full accreditation from MQA for this programme since 2013.
