Mastering public health

-

PERDANA University is one of the few private higher education institutions in Malaysia to offer a Master’s programme majoring in Public Health – a rapidly growing field where professionals who are innovative and motivated to reduce healthcare disparities are in high demand.

Public health workers with a global perspective are needed to help close the gaps in basic public health services, such as immunisations, disease outbreaks that affects communities such as dengue, HIV and H1N1 and to work on other prevention and treatment services.

With a Master of Science (Public Health), graduates are better prepared to work with individuals, families and communities to strengthen health systems and improve public health.

The programme at Perdana University prepares students who want to be committed to public health careers in either the public, private or non-profit sectors. The programme provides a rigorous curriculum to help students develop the analytic and critical reasoning skills to improve population health. It provides a foundation of learning and training to prepare students for their anticipated career paths by producing graduates who have the skills to perform well on the job upon initial hire. The quality of the student learning experience is enhanced through applied and experiential learning. The close faculty mentoring will help students meet their personal goals.

Graduates can eventually work with government institutions, non-profit agencies, hospitals and clinics as well as a variety of organisations. They would be able to create, implement and evaluate global health programmes and policies, conduct research on emerging disease patterns and critical global health issues, promote health behaviour change among communities, respond to disasters and assist in recovery and assure the quality and accessibility of health services.

The Master of Science (Public Health) programme at Perdana University offers electives in occupational health and epidemiology and has the provisional accreditation by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).

Perdana University was established as a Public Private Partnership (PPP) initiative by Academic Medical Centre Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Chase Perdana Sdn Bhd with the support of the Unit Kerjasama Awam Swasta of the Prime Minister’s Department.

Perdana University is envisioned to be an education research hub for the region to fulfil the needs of the nation for competent health science graduates.

The university operates from an interim campus that is well-furnished and conducive in the Malaysia Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS). The lush greenery and scenic landscape provide a brief respite from lessons and is just a short drive away to the townships of Serdang, Sri Kembangan and Putrajaya. It is also several minutes away from IOI City Mall. The university attracts some of the brightest and promising academics locally and internationally, who provide guidance and share their knowledge with students.

A variety of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes are also available at the university, including Medicine, Occupational Therapy and Bioinformatics.
