Faculty of Business, Management and Social Sciences (FBMSS) Dean, Prof Dr Abdul Latif Salleh spent 25 years working at the University of Malaya and following his retirement in 2008 went on to continue teaching at the Prince Sultan University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, for five years.
Faculty of Pharmacy dean Prof Datuk Dr Allan Mathews is a wellknown figure in the pharmacy profession with 14 years’ experience in the government sector, pioneering Clinical Pharmacy Services and 22 years in the pharmaceutical industry. Faculty of Medicine dean Prof Dr Alam Sher Malik had a distinguished career in Clinical Paediatrics and Child Health as well as in Medical Education and Management over three decades in various parts of the world, especially in Pakistan and Malaysia. Prof Malik is a recognised expert on infectious diseases in children. Faculty of Integrative Sciences and Technology dean Associate Prof Dr Yagasena Appannah has over 25 years of experience in teaching, research and industry and a pioneer member of USM research team on Satellite Signal Propagation under the POST-PARTNERS programme in collaboration with Ministry of Post and Telecommunications, Japan.
Centre for Graduate Studies and Research Director and Biotechnology Head, Associate Prof Dr Vilasini Pillai has over 30 years of experience in Agriculture Biotechnology and Science and Technology related policies and regulations, having worked in the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) in the area of genetic engineering of crop plants. There are many more excellent academicians in Engineering, Computer Science and the Foundation programmes with strong credentials and experts in their fields.
QIUP’s quest is to develop all rounded graduates who not only excel in studies but also actively participate in various conferences, educational competitions and sports.
QIUP recently clinched podium finishes in three categories at the 2017 National English Olympics (NEO17) competition held at Universiti Teknologi Petronas. In the story telling competition, Sahibzada Mubashir Noor was crowned champion and winner of the gold medal. In the speech competition, Kajel Gill and Jasdeep Singh clinched first runner-up silver medal and second runner-up bronze medal titles respectively, while in the creative writing competition, Monissha Thiagu clinched the second runner-up bronze medalist title.
QIUP was first runner-up in the overall Institutional championship – indeed a momentous day at the 2017 National English Olympics.
The university’s undergraduates also presented papers at the Interdisciplinary ICT Practice Conference and International Symposium on Mathematical Sciences and Computing Research conference, which have been published in the International Journal of Computer Networks and Applications. Besides educational competitions, the undergraduates also participated in various sports competitions with outstanding results. The university firmly believes these competitions will help undergraduates develop the necessary competitive and leadership skills for the working world.
