JULY 7: The Syok Rock Show, hosted by Zazz Pro­duc­tions, is set to be a rock ’n’ roll ex­trav­a­ganza with spec­tac­u­lar gui­tar strum­ming and soaring vo­cals. It will fea­ture key acts that have made a name for them­selves in the lo­cal in­die and rock scene. They in­clude Shh Diam!, a bunch of up­beat mu­si­cians with hints of feisty fem­i­nism and youth­ful punk; Bil­lie Blue & The Nowhere Men, which boasts all-star tal­ents such as Bil­lie Blue, So­heil San­jabi, Icco and Reuben of Cats in Love fame; and Kaya, who will rock the stage with their in­fec­tious cover beats, dance tunes, and more. Spe­cial guests are The Swipes and James and the van der Beeks. In­die dar­ling, Ky­oto Pro­to­col, no stranger to the big or small stage, will also be ham­ming it up with its catchy, head-bop­ping melodies. Cover charge: RM25. Show­time: 9pm.

The com­pe­ti­tion is open to Malaysian IC hold­ers aged from 16 to 65. The cat­e­gories are: solo and duet. i-Sing is the big­gest singing com­pe­ti­tion that of­fers the best plat­form for all as­pir­ing singers to show­case their tal­ent. SATUR­DAY TILL JULY 9: The world lost Paul Smith when he was the age of 85, but not be­fore sev­eral gen­er­a­tions had an op­por­tu­nity to ad­mire his dis­tinct and in­tri­cate gallery of art. Known world­wide as the “Type­writer Artist”, Smith’s story spans eight decades, seven in which he cre­ated type­writer art. He had se­vere spas­tic cere­bral palsy that af­fected his speech, mo­bil­ity and fine mo­tor co-or­di­na­tion. He cre­ated works us­ing only a hand­ful of sym­bol keys on the top row of his type­writer key­board. This ex­hi­bi­tion also fea­tures the cre­ative works of An­gel Wong, Dhyan­nah Low, Ho Yoon See, Low Pey Sien and Sophia Chang. Time: 3pm-5.30pm (Satur­day) and 9am-6pm (Sun­day to July 9).
