THE International Invention, Innovation and Technology Exhibition (ITEX) is a showcase of ingenious creations.

With a 2017 focus on commercialisation and entrepreneurship, it provides a marketplace for the discoveries of research to be translated into commercial impact.

Management and Science University (MSU) takes away from ITEX 2017 two gold and one silver for three innovations that add to living comfort.

“An Innovative Ready-To-Eat Halal Nasi Lemak To Go” by School of Graduate Studies (SGS) Prof Datuk Dr Asbi Ali et al. and “The Production of a New 8-in-1 Instant Herbal Coffee as Halal Health Beverage” by Faculty of Health and Life Sciences (FHLS) senior lecturer, Dr Zulhabri Othman et al., brought in the Gold for MSU, both in the Biotechnology, and Health and Fitness category.

“A New Animation Technique to Produce Commercial Super Squad Movie” by Faculty of Information Sciences and Engineering (FISE) senior lecturer Dr Musab A.M. Ali et al. brought in the Silver in the ICT and Multimedia category.

Exhibiting the inventions of researchers from higher learning institutions as well as independent young inventors and corporate bodies, ITEX aims to empower entrepreneurs to make great ideas commercially viable.

A platform to encourage transition from scientific discovery to commercial application, it aligns with the aspirations of Malaysia Commercialisation Year as championed by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI).

Thirty universities, including 11 private ones from more than 20 countries participated in the 28th ITEX, which was held at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre in mid-May.

MSU is one of Malaysia’s top universities, with a focus on developing and delivering quality human capital in national and global critical-need areas, such as Medicine, Health Sciences, Pharmacy, Information Sciences, and Engineering, besides Business Management and Professional Studies, Education and Social Sciences, Hospitality and Culinary and Music and Fashion.

The award-winning homegrown study programmes of the university meet stringent standards set by both local and international bodies.

Accreditors include the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), the UK’s Accreditation Services for International Colleges (ASIC) and Japan’s Alliance on Business Education and Scholarship for Tomorrow (ABEST21).

MSU was also accorded “Excellent Status University” twice in the national universityrating system Setara and The Most Entrepreneurial Private University 2016 by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. In a recent recognition, MSU was awarded the BrandLaureate Best Brand in Education for Leadership and Human Capital Development 2017.

In an international rating exercise undertaken by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), MSU received Five Star ratings for Teaching, Employability, Facilities, Social Responsibility and Inclusiveness.

As an applied and enterprise university, MSU offers programmes of study at postgraduate, undergraduate and foundation levels, through connected pathways that admit students from all walks of life and personal backgrounds.
